The Lounge Tea House

  • The Japanese tea house in Munich dates back to 1972, when it was gifted to Munich by the city of Sapporo an the Japanese Urasenke Foundation, as a sign of peace and friendship on the occasion of the Munich Olympic Games. Sapporo hosted the Winter Olympics in the same year, and this was the connection between the two cities. This small building was used as the royal tea house. While the exterior has an understated French look, the building’s ornate interior borrows from Asia, giving it a more luxurious feel. Blue and white colors dominated the large entry floor of the Pagodenburg, while the smaller rooms of the upper floor are decorated in a variety of colors, each with ornate designs. Worth a look. A symbol of peace and friendship between Germany and Japan, this wonderful teahouse brings a piece of the Orient to the heart of Munich.
